If you can see the inside of the metal barrel, you can also judge by the color inside the barrel. If the inside and outside of the barrel are the same color, the barrel is mostly aluminum, because when the aluminum barrel is oxidized, the inside and outside are oxidized together. The copper rod and stainless steel rod can only be sprayed on the exterior, but not on the inside of the pen.
If the pen is electroplated with bright chrome, it is mostly copper or stainless steel, because aluminum cannot be electroplated.
